start with a
fixed
volume of dilute
sulfuric
acid - our
limiting
reactant.
gently heat the acid until almost boiling
3) use spatula to add small amounts of
copper oxide
to the acid and stir with a glass rod -
copper oxide
will react and seem to disappear.
4) add more
copper oxide
until some powder remains after stirring - reaction has stopped and
acid
has reacted.
5) pour mixture into a funnel lined with
filter paper
to remove the unreacted copper oxide and allow the filtrate to drip to the
copper sulphate.
6) add filtrate into
evaporating
dish and heat gently using
bunsen burner
until half the solution remains
7) leave solution for 24 hours to allow
crystals
to form, then scrape crystals onto paper
towel
and gently pat them dry.
