3 states of osmosis

• In a dilute solution animal cells swell then burst and plant cells swell but don't burst due to their cell wall
• Dilute solution turns cell turgid
• In solution with same concentration as cytoplasm of cell, animal and plant cells will remain the same
• In same concentration cells are described as flaccid
• In a concentrated solution water moves out of cells by osmosis and cell becomes plasmolyzed
• In concentrated solutions animal cells, shrink and shrivel up, in plant cells the vacuole shrinks and cytoplasm pulls away from cell wall
• Concentrated solution e.g salt
• Dilute solution e.g pure water
• In same concentration there's no net movement of water in or out of cells
• same concentration as cytoplasm is why blood plasma is same as blood cell cytoplasm so no bursting or shrivelling happens
