    Three types
    1. compliance - when they agree externally not internally
    2. identification- when behaviour and beliefs change only with the group
    3. internalisation- when beliefs and behaviour genuinely changes
  • explanations and types of conformity
    informative- when we are unsure we tend to look at the majority to be right
    Jenness (1932) asked pp alone first then in a group then alone again to guess the amount of beans in a jar. This task was ambiguous meaning there was no correct answer.
    results: pp moved closer to the group answer when asked for the second time (women comformed more)
    normative- when we want to fit in and not look different we agree with the majority in order for us to be acepted
