physics - convection

Cards (9)

  • convection-
convection occurs when particles with a lot of heat energy in a liquid or gas move and take the place of particles with less heat energy
  • convection is a liquid or gas
  • conduction is a solid
  • Radiation the heat waves go through empty space
  • empty space is called the vacuum
  • 4 ways to transfer energy
    1. electric current
    2. Waves
    3. thermal/heating
    4. forces (mechanical)
  • when a fuel is burned the two main waste products are carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide
  • carbon dioxide is the fossil fuel and helps cause global warming and climate change. This is produced when any fossil fuels are burned.
  • Sulphur dioxide when dissolved in acid rain, this is mainly a problem for coal powerstations
