  • Sport pertains to any form of physical activity or game.
  • Sport is often competitive and organized, that aims to maintain or improve physical ability and skills of a player while providing enjoyment and entertainment to spectators.
  • Michael Jordan - considered by many basketball fanatics and experts as the greatest basketball player. He dominated the highest level of professional basketball and went on to become a sports icon.
  • Michael Jordan was cut from the varsity basketball team and pushed himself to be better by practicing harder to improve his skills.
  • Individual sports foster a higher amount of discipline, self-confidence, focus and passion. The player is solely responsible for winning or losing, succeeding, or failing.
  • There are exceptions to what are considered as individual sports, such as the Ryder Cup in golf, in which two teams from either side of the Atlantic Ocean compete, but often the competition is for an individual trophy.
  • Dual sports are a type of sports that are played by two people playing against each other. This is similar to team sports only that it’s a 1V1 competition.
  • Team Sports refers to sports where two groups play against each other
  • Badminton - Played using strung rackets and a feathered shuttlecock by two or four players on a rectangular court.
  • Chess - A two-player strategy board where two players play a checkered board with 64 squares in an 8×8 grid. The game ends when the king is captured or the opposing player surrenders.
  • Table Tennis - Also known as ping pong, it is a smaller version of tennis that is played using a lightweight ball and a small rubber bat.
  • Tennis - Another racket sport played by two or four players. The sport is played using strung racket and a hollow rubber ball.
  • Volleyball - A usually team sport involving two groups of six players where players use their hands to bat the ball back and forth.
  • In team sports, many variables are considered to determine the success or failure of the team.
  • Although individual qualities and skills are helpful; performance will not rely on a single talent. A team’s performance or success depends on the collective effort of all its players.
  • A team sport includes any sport where individuals are organized into opposing teams which compete to win and act together towards a shared objective
  • Team sports are practiced between opposing teams, where the players generally interact directly and simultaneously between them to achieve an objective.
  • Examples of team sports are basketball, volleyball, rugby, water polo, handball, lacrosse, cricket, baseball, and the various forms of association football and hockey.
  • Technical skills are the basics of playing the game, while tactical skills are the strategies to take advantage during the game.
  • Rules of the game - Set of rules on how the game is played, violations, penalties, how to score points, how many players are allowed, etc.
  • Officiating - Officials of the game, their duties and responsibilities of calling for violations, penalties, points, etc. and regulating fair play

  • Skill related physical fitness - One of the factors that influence skill related performance is hereditary; however, it can be improved. Sometimes called sports fitness or motor fitness.
