    "our" suggests the large number of people who have suffered."Break" shows suffering, the Natzis where hurting multiple people on purpose just to salvage items that they believed where more valuable than the victims theirselves. Isn't killing but a way of torture. Feeling- suffering Link- horror, suffering
  • "Stars on all our brows" - metaphor (Stanza 1)
    "Stars" these link to the Star of David which was sowed onto the Jewish people's clothes. This was used as a target towards the Jewish people. Feeling - scared, worried. Link - remembrance
  • "upright as statues" imagery-simile (Stanza 2)
    "Statues" to show how strong and resilient the women since statues would traditionally only be made of great and admirable people. This also may suggest that they cannot move due to fear of death, one wrong move could cost them their entire life. Feeling - sympathy. Link - remembrance as statues are a way to remember people.
  • "World forever bad" word choice (Stanza 2)
    "Forever bad" shows that at that place and time the Jewish people believed that this is how the world would forever be and this is how the world has become. Torturous and evil. Feeling - horrified suffering. Link - suffering give us the idea of how long this lasted and how bad it would have been.

    "Loosened" this shows that the Natzis where loosening their belt this gives us the idea of ethier the Jewish woman was about to be raped or whipped. A sign of torture and abuse. Feeling - sympathetic for her. Link - suffering

    "Gap" show us their was so many dead body's surrounding her if was a surprise if their was a gab between them. Feeling - sad, sympathetic. Link - suffering you feel bad for all the people who have died.

    Traumatic impact "A trick" shows the soldiers were just trying to get a reaction from the Jews and it was working. Feeling - worried, stressed. Link - suffering being tortured thinking she is going to be killed but then isn't
  • "Perfect April evening" word choice (Stanza 4)
    "April" easter, new life, spring, happiness and joy but not the case. Contrast between death and new life. "Perfect" shoes if was a beutiful day yet horrible things where still going on in the world. Feeling - angry. Link - remembrance when it's a nice day in April not everywhere was experiencing that nice aspect of life.
  • "After" x3 repetition (Stanza 5)
    In this section of the poem the Jewish woman is trying to think about others peoples lives and what they are experiencing instead of trying to focus on the reality of what is going on in her life. Feeling - annoyed, sorry. Link - suffering her only way to get through this process is by changing the subject of her reality to someone else's reality.
  • "Sara Ezra" ellipsis-lists (Stanza 5)
    Again forces us to remember the names of Jewish people who have died. Sometimes we only think of 5-6 million Jews dying as a number, but again they are an individual. Feeling - disappointed. Link - remembrance she's remembering all the strong people who have fought at died by her side.
  • "Sister" direct address (stanza 6)
    The Jewish woman is reaching out to the reader and calling them their sister this makes you feel more connected to the author. Feeling - sorry, closer, related. Link - suffering she is reaching out for help.
  • "desolate and lost" word choice (Stanza 6)
    "Lost" she feels empty and all alone everyone has sided now and she's the only one left surrounded by what feels like a million Natzi soldiers. Feeling - sympathetic. Link - suffering all the struggling she went through and now she's just own her own at the end.
