  • The sign test is used to analyse the difference in scores between related items like the same participant being tested twice
  • how to calculate sign test:
    1. the score for condition B is subtracted from condition A to produce the sign of difference (+ or -)
    2. add up the amount of + or -
    3. participants who achieved the same score in condition A and B should be disregarded and deducted from the N value
    4. the S value is the total of the less frequent sign (+ or -)
  • If S is equal to or less than the critical value, then S is significant and the null hypothesis is accepted and the alternative hypothesis is rejected at 5% level of certainty
