Conformity- a change in a persons behaviour or opinion as a result of real or imagined pressure from a person or a group of people
compliance, identification and internalisation are all reasons for why we conform
Compliance- shallowest level of conformity, here a person changes their behaviour publically, the way in which they act, but not their private beliefs
Internalisation- is the deepest and most permenant level of conformity, here a person changes their public behaviour and their private beliefs, change occurs public and private, whether the group is there or not,
Identification- moderate level of conformity, conform to the behaviours and ops of the group because there is something about the group that we value, we identify with the group and want to be recognised as being a part of it, beliefs are internalised in order to gain approval
