  • What is it?
    • a campaign started based on someone's individual experiences
    • introduced as a response to the experience to ensure that nobody else has to suffer from the same trauma
  • Ann Ming: Justice for Julie Campaign
    • Julie's murderer, Billy Dunlop, confessed to the murder after he had just been acquitted but couldn't be retried due to the double jeopardy law
    • wanted to change the double jeopardy law
    • took police to court, lobby parliament
    • Criminal Justice Act: abolished double jeopardy for serious crimes with a retrospective effect
    • Billy Dunlop was retried and found guilty, as well as Stephen Lawrence's murderers
  • Claire's Law: Protect and Respect Campaign
    • murder of Claire by her ex-boyfriend who was currently serving parole for a violent crime
    • wanted to allow members of the public to request information about their partners from the police
    • lobbied parliament, 'protect and respect' Fabulous Magazine campaign
    • Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme and Domestic Abuse Protection orders
    • didn't work, Rosie Derbyshire was murdered by her boyfriend Ben Topping whilst waiting for a response to her application for information through the disclosure scheme
