    AO1 – obstructive / bureaucratic / inflexible
    ‘I cant treat C differently to any other student ..because then everybody would want to be treated differently.’ 
    AO2 – justification - connective ‘because’ – but reason does not reflect a good Head of a special school 
  • AO3 – Stephens shows us how even those who should champion special needs can subvert our expectations and put up barriers. Mrs G is focussed on the theme of difference and how treating people the same is the best way forward but this is not giving C fair chances. He needs adjustments and the ones Ed is asking for are easy to make.
  • Mrs Shears 
    AO1 – hostile / aggressive
    ‘Get away from my dog.’ 
    AO2 – repetition / imperative / possessive pronoun 
  • First character to speak in play. She introduces central mystery of crime genre- death of Wellington but is also connected to wider theme and mystery of C Mum. She is hostile to Christopher. Siobhan immediately reads from the book ‘It was seven minutes after midnight’ to give precise details of what C is focussing on /help audienc make sense of scene.

    AO1 - kind but misguided
    ‘How are you doing, captain?’ / ‘What’s 251 times 864?’ 
    AO2 – term of endearment / interogatives – seems to be fond of Christopher but focused on his difference by challenging him and laughing 
    AO3 – Even those close to family and Christopher, perceive his difference and draw attention to it. Don’t interact with him as you would a neuro-typical person
