  • Lovell 1486 had many supporters of Richard who gathered against Henry however it was not a threat as Henry was aware of the rebellion
  • Lovell: rebellion disappeared when H sent an army
  • Lovell fled to Flanders, Stafford took sanctuary but was executed, H had good spies
  • Simnel 1486-7, claimed to be the Earl of Warwick: figurehead of the Yorkists, however H paraded the real Earl of Warwick around London
  • Simnel: H was unaware of the rebellion so S was able to gather army of 8000 men and they marched to Lancaster
  • Simnel presented himself as Edward and the Earl of Kildare crowned him Edward 6 in Dublin
  • Simnel: went to battle for 3 hours but Henry's 12,000 men beat Simnel however H could have been beat easily as only been on the throne for 2 years and vulnerable
  • Margaret of burgundy sent 2000 mercenaries to help
  • No nobles involved in Simnel
  • Yorkshire rebellion (YR) 1489: Earl of Northumberland tries to collect tax but murdered
  • YR sparked by request for higher taxes (war for France which they thought was so far away)
  • YR: large crowds however rebellion put down by royal army under the Earl of Surrey who was then made lieutenant of the north
  • The Cornish rebellion (CR): 1497, Somerset and Cornwall uprising at increase in tax for war in Scotland, so far away
  • CR had 15,000 supporters who marched to Blackheath, outskirts of London, however no support from Devon,
  • CR: Lord Aubrey joined the rebels who were crushed by Henry's 25,000 army
  • Warbeck 1491-9: received support from James 4, Archduke Phillip, Charles 8, Margaret of Burgundy also suspected to be involved
  • W: Yorkist backed him, Warbeck pretended to be Richard, Duke of York who had a greater claim to throne than H(H unable to parade around London)
  • Warbeck travelled to Ireland= no support but in Scotland he married James 4 cousin and James gave 1500 soldiers
  • Warbeck could only get 100 supporters to travel to France with however the treaty of Etaples forced him to go to Flanders in 1492
  • Henry broke of the cloth trade showing how much of a threat he was
  • W: Maximillian lacked financial support to help
  • W: captured in 1497 and put in tower of London but caught plotting with the Earl of Warwick so both executed
  • Warbeck signalled the end of Yorkist challenges
  • De La Pole: 1499-1506, Yorkist claim to the throne as 3rd in line, wore the white rose to gather support. Margaret of Burgundy, Maximillian and archduke Phillip involved
  • DLP: Henry worried about support from Maximillian so gave him £10,000 yet this did not stop him from supporting
  • DLP: earl of Suffolk killed many supposed to attend the kings court in 1499 so ordered to be arrested but fled to Burgundy
  • DLP: (Maximillian's son) Archduke Phillip of Burgundy paid £138,000 to capture Suffolk and he surrendered Suffolk in Calais 16th March 1506 with no battle
  • DLP: Phillip was sailing to Spain to invade but storm blew him to England
  • DLP was killed by Henry 8 in 1513
  • Stafford uprising: 1486 with Yorkist unhappy at Henry's victory at the BOB, leaders of uprising took sanctuary at Colchester cathedral, Henry sent army and they surrendered, Lovell fled abroad and Humphrey Stafford executed, Thomas Stafford pardoned and remained loyal
  • Elizabeth of York has strong claim to the throne so H married her in 1486
