becks negative triad- faulty information processing of the environment causes an individual to have a negative view of self, the world, 'i will never be a good person, 'no one thinks im a good person'
Ellis' ABC model- an activating event in depressed patients, such as failed tests, leads to an irrational belief such 'i am a failure' which then leads to a negative consequences- the behavioural, emotional and cognitive characteristics of depression, therefore depression is caused by irrational beliefs about the environment
CBT involves therapy where it is highly structured interviews, the therapist gets client to recognise their irrational thought, then the therapist finds events in their life that disproves their irrational thought, then the therapist sets reality-testing homework where they compare their thinking to events in the real world, they also get the client to write diaries to identify situations in which negative thinking occurs so these can be targeted
