    • Skilful use of language techniques - caught my attention.
    • Alitteration - used serverally - The coats up a tree this “ you see me with my puffy petulant face“ and Guzzling and gullping in the best of hotels. (describes powerful majors as glutons and unattractive. The majors are portrayed as unfit because they do not fight and instead spend their time having fun. In the second quote, onomatopoeia was employed to imitate how the soldiers ate.
  • Methaphor- “and speed glum heros up the line to death”.
this is a metaphor for battlefields, where soldiers faced fight their opposition.
  • Satirical - Reading the role of honour poor young chap
  • Theme - malfeasance - wrongdoing by officials.
    • this theme challenged me to stop and think in relation to the idea of power in the poem. This poem contrasts the perspectives of two types of people during war ; these two perspectives are powerful officers and powerless soldiers. Through strong officers the theme of malfeasance is portrayed. The powerful officers were depicted as being cruel because they sent poor soldiers to fight in wars and they would receive accolades for it. The quote that illustrates this is ”and speed glum hero’s up the line to death”. Insensitive - enjoying in hotels/solider -suffering
  • The poem challenges us to consider whether we have ever been guilty
of malfeasance or if we know anyone who has committed such an
act. It also makes us question what our responsibility is when we
witness someone committing malfeasance. We can either ignore
them or report them. If we choose to ignore them then we become
complicit in their actions. However, if we report them then we may be
putting ourselves at risk. Therefore, we must weigh up the pros and
    cons of reporting malfeasance.
