  • Anterior cord syndrome 

    • bilateral paralysis below the level of lesion
    • bilateral loss of pain and temperature sensation
    • Preservation of touch, vibration, pressure, and proprioception
  • Central cord syndrome 

    • bilateral paralysis, mostly UE
    • bilateral loss of pain and temp sensation in UE
  • Brown sequard syndrome 

    • ipsilateral loss of motor control below level of injury
    • contralateral loss of pain and temperature
    • ipsilateral loss of sensation of touch, proprioception, vibration, pressure
  • Posterior cord syndrome 

    • preserved motor fct
    • bilateral loss of touch, vibration, pressure, and proprioception
    • intact pain and temperature sensation
  • Conus medullaris
    • Injury T12-L2
    • potential LE paralysis
    • potential loss of bowel/bladder control
  • Cauda Equina
    • Injury L2-S5
    • low back pain
    • potential loss of bowel/bladder control
  • Autonomic dysreflexia
    • elevated excessive BP
    • sit them up
  • Orthostatic hypotension
    • excessive Bp drop
    • lay them down
  • Heterotopic ossification
    • hard end feel during rom due to abnormal bone growth
    • we position and painless rom to prevent stiffening
  • DVT
    • Risk highest initially after injury
    • Formation of blood clot, usually in thigh or lower leg
  • Pressure ulcer
    • Circulation is compromised due to decreased activity
    • Need to change position every 2 hours
    • Need to learn to Inspect skin and Reposition in bed and w/c
