  • Describe Johnson
    He created the 'great society' and faced powerful opposition in congress to his reform measures. People were very sympathetic to his reforms due to Kennedys assassination. He was an experienced politician and was able to win support.

    In 1964 he banned discrimination and set up the equal opportunities commission. The voting rights act 1965 ensured fair voting procedures. In 1967 the ban on mixed marriages was lifted.

    He cut taxes to encourage people to spend. He helped businesses grow and create jobs and improved railways and highways.
  • Social reform- The great society
    The medical care act 1965 provided Medicare for the old and Medicaid for the poor. Elementary and secondary education act 1965 gave first ever federal funding for state education. Model cities act 1966 targeted urban renewal and slum clearance. Minimum wage increased.
