  • Acute soft tissue injuries

    Soft tissue – non solid structures of musculo-skeletal system e.g. ligaments, tendons, muscles
  • Sprain/ torn ligament

    One or more ligaments have been overstretched, twisted or torn
  • Severity of sprains

    • 1st degree → overstretch of a few ligaments
    • 2nd degree → partial tear
    • 3rd degree → total rupture or detachment of ligament from bone
  • Strain
    Occurs when muscle fibres overstretch/tear
  • Grades of strains

    • Grade 1 → mild muscle pull/ strain
    • Grade 2 → partial muscle tear
    • Grade 3 → complete muscle tear
  • Exercise Induced Muscle Damage

    Microscopic tears in muscle fibres, also known as DOMS - delayed onset of muscle soreness
  • Haematoma
    A contusion / bruise where blood vessels have ruptured
  • Common causes of acute injuries

    • Collision
    • Fall
    • Overestimating ability
    • Being struck by an object /impact
    • Not warming up properly
