  palestinian terrorism. 8 Palestinian terrorists seized 11 members of the Israeli team in a protest to release the 234 imprisoned Palestinians. all 11 of the Israelis were killed.

  boycott led by USA. Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. jimmy Carter and Margaret thatcher suggested a boycott if soviet troops did not withdraw from Afghanistan. 4,000 out of 10,000 boycotted the games.

  boycott led by Soviet Union. only LA bid to host the games. 14 nations refused to take part in the games in response to the 1980 games in Moscow. the Soviet Union blamed it on the commercialisation of the games and using the games for political purposes. tit for tat response to USA boycotting in the previous games
