Evaluating feminist views on housework

    • The British Attitudes Survey (2012), found that a traditional view of men going out to work and women doing the housework was only held by a very small minority of people in the UK.
    • Gershuny (1994) found that the longer a woman had been in paid employment, the more housework her husband did.
    • As such, while families might not be symmetrical there is a clear trend towards equality and they are much more equal than when Willmott & Young (or indeed Oakley) were writing.
