SS

• After destroying the SA in 1934, the SS grew to a 1 million member army under the control of Heinrich Himmler
• SS soldiers were very highly trained and loyal aryan men
• Under Himmler, SS had the main responsibility to destroy opposition to Nazi party and carry out racial policy
• SS has 3 main sub-division:

  SD - investigates disloyalty within the army and deals with politically sensitive cases

  Death head units - responsible for concentration camps and transportation + killing of jews

  Waffen SS - armoured regiments
• SS created their own courts. Over 200,000 were sent to them
