temperature

• temperature is the measure of how hot or cold it is. it is measured using a thermometer
• temperature is always recorded in the shade, out of direct sunlight
• the thermometer can be placed in a Stevenson screen, which is:

  • coloured white, to reflect the heat
  • slatted sides, so air can pass through and keep out direct sunlight
  • 1.2m off the ground to measure air temp not ground temp
• sometimes the highest and lowest temperature in a 24 hr period are compared in a min and max thermometer
• often, a digital thermometer is used. it contains an electronic sensor which is very accurate and easy to use
