wind direction

• wind is moving air. wind blows from areas of high pressure to low pressure
• winds are named after the direction from which they blow - eg SW wind blows from SW to NW
• wind direction is measured using a wind vane. these have:

  • a pivot which points in the direction the wind is blowing from
  • compass points
• the wind that blows most often over an area is called the prevailing wind
