Microscopic structure of skeletal muscles

• Each bundle of muscle is surrounded by a plasma membrane → Sarcolemma
• Sarcomere → a small section of the myofibril ⇒ made up of 2 protein filaments
• Thick protein filament → myosin
• Thin protein filament → actin
• The arrangement of these proteins give the myofibril its striped appearance
