The novel starts in Basil's house. Basil is showing Lord Henry Wotton his new painting of Dorian and is telling Henry how they met. Henry mentions hearing Dorian's name at Lady Agatha's. Then the butler comes in and says that Dorian is here. Henry goes to meet Dorian despite Basil's protests
What happens in Chapter 2 of Dorian?
As Dorian sits for his painting Lord Henry Wotton talks about his philosophy which is very Walter Pateresque. They talk about the fleeting nature of beauty and youth and Dorian is so overwhelmed he runs out and puts his face in flowers, living like for pleasure. Dorian makes the faustian pact with the painting and wishes that it would grow old instead of him, Basil says he will give him the painting.
