Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction is the concept and practice of reducing disaster risks through analysis and management of the causal factors of disasters
DRRR
Leads to reduced exposure to hazards
Lessening of vulnerability of people and assets
Effective management of land and the environment
Improved preparedness for adverse events
Disaster impacts
Loss of life
Injury
Disease
Damage to property
Destruction of assets
Loss of services
Economic disruption and environmental degradation
Pre event
1. Prevention - Can we avoid it?
2. Mitigation - Can we absorb the harm?
3. Adaptation - Can we learn from it?
4. Preparedness - Are we equipped against it?
Post event
1. RESPONSE - What do we do when it comes?
2. RECOVERY - How can we get back up from this?
3 Key Principle
DEVELOPMENT CAN EITHER INCREASE OR DECREASE DISASTER RISK.
POLICIES, LAWS, AND REGULATIONS CAN SAVE LIVES IF PROPERLY AND STRICTLY IMPLEMENTED IN THE COMMUNITY.
THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO BUILD A RESILIENT COMMUNITY.
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) was adopted by UN member states at the Third World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in March 2015, in Sendai City, Japan.
