Types of LTM

• Episodic memory: Type of explicit memory which includes memories of personal experiences.
• Semantic memory: Explicit Memories for knowledge, facts, concepts.
• Procedural memory: Implicit memories of learned behaviours
• Implicit: Learnt behaviours.

  Explicit: Knowledge of events and facts.
• Strength) Case studies like HM or Clive wearing showed that they both had damaged episodic memory but their procedural memory remained intact. Supports the idea that LTM is not unitary.

  
  

  Strength) Studies using fMRI scans show that different types of LTM activate different brain areas. For example, episodic memory is associated with hippocampus etc.
