Protist Diseases

• Malaria:

  • spread by vectors (mosquitoes) that feed on other animals
  • the vectors pick up the protist when they feed on infected animals
  • when the vector feeds on another animal, they insert the protist into the animal's blood vessels
  • can be fatal
  • can be protected from mosquitoes carrying malaria by using mosquito nets or insecticides
• Symptoms of malaria:

  • repeating episodes of fever
