Preventing Disease

• Being hygienic:

  • washing hands thoroughly before preparing food or after you've sneezed
• Destroying vectors:

  • killing vectors using insecticides or by destroying their habitat so they can't breed
• Isolating infected individuals:

  • isolating someone who has a communicable disease prevents them from passing it on to someone else
• Vaccination:

  • vaccinating people and animals against communicable diseases so they can't develop the infection
  • e.g. vaccinating chickens against salmonella
