Auteur theory

• The director of the film is the most important and influential person in the creation of a film rather than an author or artist. The director will control and influence all aspects of a films production.
• Advantages of auteur theory- allows films to be studies as a work of art, makes film legitimate as a art form, not just a mass entertainment product, allows for the study of great film artists, who create works of art,
• Disadvantages of auteur theory- ignores the fact a film is a collaborative process that sometimes involves the creative input of thousands of artists and artisans
• the director is not always the auteur as there are often many producers involved and writers
