roles of organisations that regulate + inspect HSC services

  • the care quality commission(CQC):
    • monitors and inspects health servcies and adult social care services
    • aims to ensure these services are of high quality and are delivered safely, effectively and compassionately
    • all providers of these services must register with the CQC
  • the national institute for health and care excellence(NICE):
    • provides guidance on current best practice in health and social care.
    • publishes guidance and advice that aims to control and improve health + social care provision.
    • provide a smoother transition for service users moving from health to social services, and childrens services to adult social services.
  • ofsted:
    • the office for standards in education, childrens services and skills.
    • regulates + inspects services that educate children, young people + adults or care for children.
  • public health england(PHE):
    • sponsored by the department of health , set up in april 2013
    • protect and improve the public health and wellbeing of people in england
    • reduce health inequalities
    • example: the major flu vaccination programme- 'stay well this winter'
