  • Autocratic - A style of leadership where the leader makes all decisions and does not delegate.
    • useful when dealing with a lot of unskilled workers
    • good for crisis management
    • requires a lot of supervision
    • can demotivate able & intelligent employees
  • Paternalistic - A form of leadership where the leader is seen as having a duty to guide and protect the followers.
    • employees may be more motivated
    • employees my rely to much on the leader
  • Democratic - where the leader encourages workers to participate in decision making and to have a say in the running of the business
    • weight of the decision-making off the leader
    • employees more motivated
    • difficult to implement with many employees
    • may take a long time
  • Laissez-faire - leaders may offer coaching & support but rarely interfere with the running of the business
    • appropriate for a small number of highly skilled employees
    • with lower skilled workers may cause a reduction in efficiency
