    • Conformity refers to when a person changes their behaviour or beliefs in response to group pressure from a majority
    • Types of conformity are compliance identification and internalisation
    • compliance is when the individual publicly changes their behavuir in the presence of the majority despite maintaining a different private view
    • Compliance happens because individuals want to fit in
    • Compliance is a temporary chance in that the individual returns to their original behaviour when the majority are no longer present
    • Identification is when an individual changes their behaviour and belief both publicly and privately
    • Identification happens because as a member of a group they recognise they have a role to play, so they look to the group for guidance on how to behave
    • Identification is a temporary change in thay is the indivi leaves the group they will return to their original behaviour
    • Internalisation is when you publicly and privately chnage your behaviour and belief
    • International happens because they believe the majority are correct and so adopt their views into their own belief sustem
    • Internalisation therefore results in a permanent chnage in that the person will continue to show this belief or behaviour even when the majority are no longer present
