FMRIs

Cards (10)

  • FMRI = Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • Measures small changes in blood flow that occurs with brain activity.
  • First FMRI scan took place in 1990. Created by Seiji Ogawa and Ken Kwong.
  • Measures how much haemoglobin is in a capillary blood cell.
  • Doesn't use radiation, which is harmful for the body.
  • Provides a clear picture of how brain activity is localised.
  • Very high resolution images
  • As brain activity changes in tiny fractions of a second, FMRI can't scan fast enough to capture very detailed brain activity.
  • Could be claustrophobic for some.
  • Very expensive, and only takes a clear picture of the subject stays perfectly still.
