• Deterence is a punishment which fears people doing the crime to stop them
• Protection of society, the purpose of this type of punishment is to protect members of society from harm
• Reformation is a type of punishment to change criminals for the better
• Retribution is a type of punishment that involves paying the cost of the crime
• Resortative justice is used to avoid prison, a process where victim and offender come together to communicate what has happened

  Repair- repair harm and ensure behaviour is not repeated
• Matthew 5 Jesus promotes forgiveness not retaliation, Christianity teaches people that in order to receive forgiveness of god we shall forgive others
• The lords prayer- teaches that forgiveness is not an option for christians, it is a command. If christians expect God to forgive their sins then they should forgive those who sin against them
• Parable of the unmerciful servant- outlines the idea of forgiveness is not a one time action, if someone asks for forgiveness over and over again, it is their duty to do so
