    REMEMBERED for his role in the Irish citizens army's 1916 Easter uprising- shot by firing squad
  • john wheatley (1869, moved: 1876) was a miner who was involved in left-wing politics, joined independent labour party in 1907 - campaigned against conscription & rent rises
    elected as councilor then mp in 1922 for Glasgow shettleton
    1924- minister of health in 1st labour government.
    remembered for housing act 1924 - 500,000 affordable houses built
