    • Locus of control

      Refers to how much a person believes that they have control over the success's, failures, and events in their lives
    • Internal locus of control

      People believe their behaviour is mainly caused by their own personal efforts. They are more likely to resist pressures to conform and obey. What happens in their life is a result of their own behaviour and they have control over their life.
    • External locus of control

      People believe their behaviour is caused by luck, fate or external circumstances. They are less likely to resist pressures to conform/obey. Whatever happens to them is controlled by external factors.
    • Individuals with an internal locus of control

      Would be better at resisting social pressures (such as the need to conform or obey) as they feel in control of situations and therefore feel they have the choice to obey or not obey, conform or not conform.
    • Social support
      The presence of other people who act as models to show that resistance to social influence is possible
