  • self reflexivity- character in a product are aware they are in a product, breaking fourth wall etc,
  • self reflextivity- talking to audience perhaps or talking to other characters about being in the show,
  • common themes- what if, the future, technology,
  • loss of reality, more artifice, lack of versimilitude, lack of realism in other words, surreal, eg may seem surreal in old town road in the bingo hall with the old white people dancing with lil nas x and billy ray cyrus
  • Baudrillard's theory of postmodernism- believes we have left reality behind, world of artificial realities, artificial copies= simulacra, they become hard to tell apart from reality, audiences prefer simulacra to real life often, could be a simulacra in terms of the narrative inside the product, simulacra= plural, simulacrum= singular,
  • idea of breaking rules and challenging conventions
  • we live in a world that is bombarded with images, therefore, it is impossible to differentiate from what is real and not real
