Speaker is addressing the poem to his mother using the pronoun 'you'
Metaphorical level - growing in independence
Literal level - his mother is helping him move out
Imagery (Mad)
Anchor - Stability or something holding you back
Kite - it flies but is tied down
Measuring - metaphor for distance between mother and child like and umbilical chord
