SLIDING FILAMENT THEORY

Cards (4)

  • The muscles are made up of microscopic units called sarcomeres
  • The sarcomeres are made up of myofilaments/proteins called actin and myosin
  • The sliding filament model states that the myosin attaches to the actin and pulls the actin
  • This allows the two filaments to slide over each other and shorten the sarcomere, therefore contracting the muscle
