  diagnosis of IDD needs low IQ and failure to function

  rosenham and selingham:

  • no longer performs standard interpersonal skills
  • severe personal distress
  • behaviour irrital to self or others
• A03 strength

  • RWA, threshold/criterea for when people need help, allows diagnosis, treatment, increase QOL, economy
• A03 limitation

  • some circumstances mean people dont meet criterea all the time eg periods of grief
  • this is a temporary reaction to a situation and thus normal reaction/ coping
  • criterea is also subjective, not operationalised so diagnosis may not be reliable
