Memory

Cards (3)

  • Sensory memory
1.All environmental stimuli from the outside world are continuously being perceived as sensory images by the brain.
2.These sensory images (visual and auditory) enter through sensory memory and last for a few seconds then are quickly lost
3.Only selected images and sounds are encoded into the short-term memory.
  • Short term memory
    4.STM has a limited capacity
5.Only 7 items of visual or auditory images are retained before these are lost by displacement by new incoming information or by decay
6.STM can also process data, to a limited extent, as well as store it.
7.STM can perform simple cognitive tasks.
8.The short term memory span can be improved by chunking and rehearsal
