transport through the leaves

Cards (7)

  • xylem vessels transport the water all around the plant.
    • at the leaves, water leaves the xylem and moves into the cells mainly by the apoplast pathway
    • water evaporates from the cell walls once water has entered it after leaving the xylem and into the spaces between the cells
  • when the stomata open water evaporates - it diffuses out of the leaf, down the water potential gradient and into the surrounding air
  • stomata
tiny pores in the surface of the leaf
  • transpiration
the evaporation of water from a plants surface
  • water loss from a leaf
  • water passes from the xylem into the leaf cells by osmosis ( down its water potential gradient)
