Under Khrushchev, censorship was eased. Books and libraries proliferated such that by the late 1950s nearly 65 thousand books were being published per year (twice as many books came out in the 1920s)
By 1959, there were 135 thousand libraries containing around 8000million books, 10 times the numbers for 1913
