Co-incidentally totally independent events in Scotland contribute to the worsening relationship between King and Parliament
In August 1641 Charles had gone North to Edinburgh to fulfil the terms of the Truce of Ripon
Charles was accompanied by Parliamentary Commissioners as Parliament didn’t trust him including John Hampden
Charles was supposed to make concessions to the covenanters meet the Scottish Parliament and military leaders. Although he did this he also plotted to remove the most radical covenanters Argyll and Hamilton by force.
The plot was leaked and failed but it revealed Charles could not be trusted to keep his word
