• king duncan as a well meaning and fair king - Macbeth describes how "his virtus plead like angels" (simile, angels being fair, pure)
• king duncan fairly promotes Macbeth for how he's very heroic in battle "brave Macbeth" - deserved that name
• Macbeth at the start of the play showed the characteristic to be a great king - violent, brave, heroic
• at the end, Macbeth is a tyrant - "each new mourn new windows howl new orphans sorros"
• context: divine right of kings - king chosen by God - treason was punished with death during the Jacobean era.
