Dickens used this novella as he wanted to dispel the prejudices towards the lower class to his upper class readership
Redemption-being saved from sin
Scrooge is pleadingforhislifeback. Eventually this happens in stave 5 when he is granted redemption through his willingness to become a benevolent and charitable member to society.
Parsimonious-being selfish
In stave one,Scrooge is the epitome of being parsimonious - he is stingy and frugal especially with his money.
Eg. reluctance to give to charity
Transmogrifies - change in a surprising or magical manner.
We see a surprisingchange in Scrooge form Stave 1-5 which marks the end of the novella.
Plight (of the poor)-an unfortunate situation.
Despite the plight of the Cratchits they still emit benevolence and gratitude at the minuscule they share.
Ostracisation - Isolation
Scrooge has willingly ostracised himself from society.
