  • What are the methods of data and system disposal?
    Physical destruction, overwriting and electromagnetic wiping
  • Explain electromagnetic wiping?
    Uses a machine called a degausser, which has a very strong electromagnetic coil to wipe the hard disk drive.
  • Why do many organisations own a degausser?

    To ensure that their data is no longer on the devices they have used so it can't be restored and accessed by authorised users.
  • What is overwriting?

    When data is sent to the hard disk drive to overwrite the binary values (reset data)
  • Explain overwriting?

    Just once is not enough to remove all the information, meaning should be repeat several times.
  • What are the types of legislations?

    WEEE, WAC, data protection act, hazardous waste directive and WAC
  • what does WEEE stand for?

    Waste electronic and electrical equipment.
