Analysed nine Christmas Broadcasts made by Queen Elizabeth II spanning three periods: 1950s, late 1960s, early 1970s and 1980s. Found evidence of RP accent change within the same individual over time.
The Queen's pronunciation of some vowels has been influenced by southern English accents of the 1980s, more typically associated with speakers younger and lower in the social hierarchy.
