Bandura’s social learning theory

Cards (6)

  • Social Learning theory

People learn by watching the behaviour of others and imitating it
  • Social Learning theory
    • Includes aggressive behaviour
    • The people we imitate are called 'models' as we model our behaviour on them
    • We won't just model anyone's behaviour, they must have higher status than us such as a parent or other family members, and influential peers
    • Behaviour can also be modelled off cultural symbols such as television and books
  • Observational learning

Viewers learn behaviours from watching others and may imitate them; many behaviours are learned from the media
  • Model
A person who is observed and/or imitated
  • Bobo Doll Experiment
Aimed to show if the children would show aggressive behaviour toward the doll if 'modelled' by an adult
  • Evidence for Social Learning theory came from a series of famous experiments conducted on 4-5 year olds using a Bobo doll
