Ionic Bonding

Cards (4)

  • Ionic bonding
The bonding between metals and non-metals due to the force of attraction between oppositely charged ions
  • Ionic bonds cannot conduct electricity when solid (as ions cannot move), only when molten or in a solution.
  • Electricity is conducted by moving ions not free electrons
  • Ionic bonds are very strong this means a large amount of energy/heat is needed to break all the bonds in the giant structure
