  • Grain line
    This symbol means you must place your fabric grain in line with the arrow. This will vary depending on different garments
  • Fold line
    Place your pattern on the fold of a fabric. E.g. if you were creating a sweetheart neckline that needed to be symmetrical.
  • Notches
    Helps you align your patterns and show where you need to join pattern pieces.
  • Button holes
    Indicate where a button hole would need to be sewn.
  • Symbols
    Often shown as dots, squares or shapes. Indicate where a pattern will connect to a seam.
  • Adjustment line
    Allows you to adjust the length of a garment dependant on the user.
  • Stitching line
    Shows you where to cut and sew your garment.
  • Darts
    Shows you where to add a dart to shape the garment.
