Grain line
This symbol means you must place your fabric
grain
in line with the
arrow.
This will vary depending on different garments
Fold line
Place your pattern on the fold of a
fabric.
E.g. if you were creating a sweetheart neckline that needed to be
symmetrical.
Notches
Helps you align your
patterns
and show where you need to
join
pattern pieces.
Button holes
Indicate where a
button
hole would need to be
sewn.
Symbols
Often shown as dots,
squares
or shapes. Indicate where a pattern will connect to a
seam.
Adjustment line
Allows you to adjust the
length
of a
garment dependant
on the user.
Stitching line
Shows you where to cut and sew your garment.
Darts
Shows you where to add a
dart
to
shape
the garment.
